Teach in Africa

The governments of all the African countries in which we are currently operating have declared war against child illiteracy. The governments are enforcing and championing the right of every child to have a basic education. STAESA's Teach in Africa program supports the campaign to eradicate child illiteracy in Africa.

We know you share in this vision, and we encourage you to join us. STAESA's Teach in Africa program offers a fantastic opportunity for everyone who wants to contribute to educational development in Africa. This program is organized in collaboration with the communities and schools in Africa, and thus the communities fully support the volunteers and interns.

The program is developed in such a way that you can teach any subject(s) you are interested in teaching to the children. The program also gives the volunteers and interns in-depth information on education in the communities, by meeting with the school authorities, political leaders, chiefs, and elders of the community.

The most common subjects taught are basic maths and conversational English or French depending on which country you teach in. You don't have to be a professional teacher to participate. You will have the opportunity to teach together with a trained teacher in a class of 20 to 45 children. After a short while, you will be left alone to teach. The only requirements for this program are that you must be 18 or above, self-motivated, open-minded, flexible, and have a sense of humor.

The children's ages range from 3 years to 5 years in day care, 6 years to 12 years in primary school, 13 years to 16 years in junior secondary school (in some countries like Ghana), 17 years to 22 years in secondary school, and 17 years to 33 years in vocational school. This program will not only make you a teacher but it will also integrate you into the community, making it possible for you to gain great insight into the African culture.
