STAESA wants to make its financial records easily accessible to all visitors of our site. We are strong believers in transparency and we want to share everything we can with the public. Here you can find spreadsheets from 2003 to 2010 that show how we spent our money. Please look through the spreadsheets as they show how STAESA works to improve Africa. Please note that all numbers given are in South African Rands. When money is transferred to us, the banks convert it to Rands. Since our auditors have not allowed us to show the full spreadsheet, we will give a pie chart for every year showing how STAESA spent its money.
The pie chart below shows how we spent our money in our latest 2010 fiscal year:
STAESA gives a majority of the program fee to the host families the volunteers stay with. Most of the program fee goes towards accomodations and food for the volunteer. The host family also plays a crucial role in immersing the program participant in the African culture. The host families are not rich either, so the money they get is a donation made by STAESA. STAESA then spends another large portion of its money on construction. We have many projects in each country we work in, and they require funds to keep them going. Staff and coordinator compensation take up the third large portion of the money. Our staff at the STAESA office work really hard to establish contacts in many African countries and then relay the information to our volunteers and interns. The coordinators make sure that the program participant's stay in their country goes as planned, and they deal with issues as they come up. We make donations to other nonprofit organizations when funds are available. We try to set aside at least 5% of our expenses for donations to other NPOs since they can help with some issues better than STAESA can. In this way, we act as a small foundation as well as an NPO that delivers many excellent volunteer or intern abroad programs. We also provide flight discounts for all our volunteers. They get refunded 10% of their flight ticket cost when they arrive in their country of choice. Small amounts of money go toward office rent, phones, and other petty expenses. We then work with the remaining money to adopt children in Africa that are in need of money to continue their education. All in all, STAESA efficiently uses all the money it receives, and directs it towards the communities that need it most.
STAESA takes pride in donating money to other NPOs. If you wish to see which organizations receieve our money, check our NPO Donations page.
