Benin is proud of the best conservation project in West Africa. Volunteers/interns will have lots of fun working with different kinds of wildlife. The STAESA Conservation program in Benin allows volunteers to have direct contact with wildlife making it possible for the volunteers/interns to achieve a lot at the end of the program.

Together with local trained volunteers, program participants will have the opportunity to live and work with nature conservation and wildlife in Benin. The project not only to exposes participants to the unique nature conservation and wildlife, but is also an opportunity for the program participants to share their willing hands to help in wildlife management, game reserve, difference kinds of birds, meetings other tourists and volunteers from other part of the world and some administration work. This program is very interesting and lots of fun. The program also includes a zoo project in Benin. Volunteers/interns will have the opportunity to work very closely with animals in cages. Furthermore, they will be feeding the animals, caring for the wounded animals, cleaning the project sites and helping in educating visitors, and helping in the day tour of the zoo.

Teaching

Teach and have fun with children in Benin. STAESA's teaching program in Benin provides a great opportunity to work very closely with schools and vocational institutions in Benin. The program allows volunteers/interns to get direct contact with the children to share in their love with the children and make an impact their lives. Often volunteers/interns are provided with accommodation or placed with host family who live very close to the schools. Together we will put smiles into the lives of the children in Benin. Volunteers will teach basic and conversational Frencha and English. Other subjects can also be taught if you have knowledge or experience in those areas. Orphanage

Living and working with orphans in Benin is full of fun. The children are very grateful and welcome every little thing you do to help them. To be in an orphanage is a very great love to these children and a joy they could never have thought of. The situation in these children's homes and communities tells you at a glance why they will prefer to stay in the orphanage for the rest of their lives. HIV/AID, unemployment and poverty are at an alarming rate. STAESA's orphanage program in Benin provides a great opportunity to work very closely with children aged 8 months to 17 years, most of whom lost their parents to HIV/AIDS. The big smiles and love of these children towards volunteers leave lots of memories in the minds of volunteers/interns, hence making it difficult to depart from them at the end of the program.

Together with local volunteers at the orphanages, volunteers work very closely with the children. The volunteers/interns teach basic and conversational French. They also participate in games, drawing, feeding, washing the children and other creative activities. Other subjects can also be taught if you have knowledge or experience in those subject. The program is designed in such a way that no matter where you find yourself in Benin, you still have fun. The children are so lovely.

Health

The program provides volunteers/interns the chance to work in hospitals and clinics in Benin. Volunteer/interns have the opportunity to work with medical officer in charge in both rural and urban communities. Medical doctors, volunteers, and interns are provided with accommodation and food. Most often volunteers/interns are placed with host family who live very closed to the hospitals and clinics. Together with the most senior medical officer in charge, the volunteers/interns work very closely with the patients. Activities include: helping in the treatment of patients, laboratory, pharmacy and breast feeding awareness. The program also includes HIV/AIDS project to educate and eradicate illiteracy, stigma and discrimination surrounding HIV/AIDS hence making the work of health professionals easier.

Media

STAESA is working very closely with lots of media houses in Benin. Everyone can work in this program. You don't have to be a journalist. Volunteers/interns get the opportunity to work with newspapers and radio stations in Benin. The program includes news broadcasting and talking on the radio station. Not only does the program expose volunteers to the unique nature of media work in Benin, it also gives you an opportunity to gain more experience in programming, production, recording, research, reporting and much more. Meeting and talking to the friendly people of Benin makes you feel at home and have lots of fun. You can also include other programs such orphanage or teaching.

Children (1-5 years)

This is a very unique and interesting placement in Benin. The program provides an opportunity to work very closely with children aged 1 to 5 years at the day care centers. Volunteers will have opportunity to teach the children basic and conversational English. Other activities are games, drawing, feeding, washing the children and other creative activities. Meeting and talking to these children is really lovely. Please don't miss this opportunity.

Construction

STAESA constructs hand dug wells and shelters to house street children and orphans in Benin. The water situation in the communities in Benin is really poor. Most of the communities have to travel miles and miles away to get water. The water in these communities is so dirty that most of us would not like to put our feet into them. But that is what the people drink because they have no other source of water. Volunteers/interns help in the construction work to provide hand dug wells and shelters to house the poor little orphans and street children, bringing smiles into their lives. Together with donors and volunteers/interns we touch lives, transform communities and make a great impact in the lives of the disadvantaged in Benin.

Volunteers work and live with the people in the community, quickly get immersed into the culture of the people. Activities include: arranging and parking bricks, mixing concrete, painting, and roofing. The program provides an opportunity for the donors and the volunteers/interns to see the empirical evidence of the reward of their donations. The program also includes food - for - all programs. These programs are aimed to supply food for orphanages and street children in Benin. Donations of any kind are welcome.

HIV/AIDS

The rapid increase of the epidemic HIV/AIDS is destroying so many lives in Africa, and Benin is not an exception. Together with you we need to do some thing quickly to calm the situation. Together with local volunteers, volunteers/interns work very closely with HIV/AIDS patients at private homes, hospitals and HIV/AIDS homes. The program gives volunteers/interns an opportunity to have a direct contact with the communities for education, and to meet HIV/AIDS patients for counselling and dispensation of food and drugs. Included in this program is outreach program where volunteers/interns join the health team for a public HIV/AIDS awareness campaign and distribution of condoms. Volunteers in the HIV/AIDS Benin project will also be involved in educational and training activities meant to increase awareness and stop the epidemic of HIV/AIDS in Benin.

Women, Youth and Development

STAESA is very concerned about the high rate of unemployment and poverty among the women and youth in Africa, and Benin is one of the countries STAESA is very concerned about. Something must be done quickly to calm the situation of unemployment and poverty in Benin. STAESA's Women and Youth Development program is very unique and interesting. The program touches lives, transforms communities, and puts smiles into the lives of the people. The program is divided into two categories namely: Poverty Alleviation project and Small Grants projects. The program allows volunteers and interns to work very closely with women and youth organizations to create and develop an income generating project (micro economic venture) in the communities in Benin.

The aim of this project is to alleviate poverty and to create jobs in the deprived communities in Benin. Volunteers/interns will also have the opportunity to work on the existing projects in the communities. The program also includes fund raising activities and education. Volunteers/interns teach the groups basic and conversional English, basic proposal writing, marketing and advertising strategies for their wires and method of job creation. At the end of the training program STAESA gives small grants to the trainees to start their business with. Other activities include candle making, tie and dye, batik making, dress making, farming, soap making, computer literacy and much more. The project allows volunteers and interns to be immersed quickly into the culture of the people of Benin. The program provides an opportunity for the donors to see the empirical evidence of their donations. Donations are welcome.

All fees are paid to country director upon arrival.

The program fee covers administrative charges, airport pickup, first night accommodation, transportation to placement site, host family (food and accommodation), orientation and supervision.

Part of your program fees also goes into the community development projects such as HIV/AIDS programs, building classroom blocks, orphanages, old age homes, water and sanitation, feeding programs, women and development programs, youths development programs and poverty alleviation projects.
